About Derbyshire
Derbyshire is a county in the East Midlands of England. A substantial portion of the Peak District National Park lies within Derbyshire, containing the southern extremity of the Pennine range of hills that extend into the north of the county.
Chesterfield is their largest town and is home to 104,000 people. Eight other main towns have populations of over 20,000. A large part of the north and west of the county is very rural, much of it in the Peak District National Park.
Derbyshire is well known for Bakewell Pudding. No visit to the Peak District and Derbyshire would be complete without sampling the famous local dessert.
Nationally famous companies in Derbyshire include Rolls-Royce, one of the world's leading aerospace companies, based there since before World War I in Derby, Thorntons just south of Alfreton and Toyota, who have one of the UK's largest car manufacturing plants at Burnaston.
