Typically, the key elements of being a Head of Digital are to strategically develop and improve customer acquisition and inbound marketing activity across all digital marketing channels such as, PPC to SEO, Email and Social media. This role would need to have an in-depth understanding of the digital landscape and how it complements and integrates with a wider marketing strategy.
A Head of Digital usually leads a digital marketing team of managers and executives and either heads up their own digital team or sits within the marketing team working in conjunction with the Head of Marketing.
This type of position would be suited to some who has been working in a digital role for several years, with management responsibilities and previous hands-on experience looking to develop and take on a more strategic role.
As a Head of Digital the role would usually encompass the following responsibilities:
  • Strategically planning and executing digital marketing activity
  • Leading and managing a team to implement digital marketing activity
  • Reviewing and analysising reports to make suggestions and improvements to optimise activity
  • Keeping up to date with the latest trends and developments with the industry
  • Be commercially minded working with the wider marketing team
