About Nottingham
Nottingham is probably best known for its link to the legend of Robin Hood and his hatred towards the Sheriff of Nottingham. A status of Robin Hood can be found near Nottingham Castle. The Castle is also known as "Castle Rock" because of its 130 feet high cliffs to the south and west. Little of the original castle still survives but has been rebuilt to house an art gallery and museum.
Nottingham during the industrial revolution was an international hub for the textile industry and particularly the manufacture of lace. It is also where one of the world’s oldest and best-known bike brands Raleigh was founded in 1887.
Today the city centre is a bustling hub of residents, students and professionals. With two universities, Nottingham Trent and University of Nottingham, attended by over 60,000 students.
Nottingham was also dubbed the 'Home of English Sport' in 2015 due to the presence of the National Ice Centre, National Watersports Centre, and Trent Bridge international cricket ground, home to tennis’ Aegon Nottingham Open, and thanks to Nottingham Forest Football Club’s City Ground and Notts County Football Club’s Meadow Lane, Nottingham also claims the country’s only ‘City of Football’ title.
