The Role
As Social Media Manager you will either be working in-house or for an agency. If you are working in-house then you will be responsible for managing all social media platforms for your company, being the voice of the brand. If you work within an agency environment then you will be managing social media accounts for a portfolio of clients, working across multiple brands. The job of a Social Media Manager is to develop a social media strategy focused on all core platforms. You will be creating engaging content, scheduling using social tools and then posting. You will then be analysing the success and performance of social activity and reporting back on key metrics. You may also be involved in community management unless this is a separate role, this will include driving conversation in the social community, starting conversations and encouraging engagements. Also managing conversations to ensure they are positive and being able to respond to the negatives in the best way.
As Social Media Manager you will either sit within the Digital Marketing team or wider Marketing team and will report into the Head of Marketing or Head of Department. You may be responsible for a junior team, coaching and mentoring them and overseeing their work.
To be successful in this role you will be passionate about all things social, love keeping up with the social trends and love communicating. You will be commercially aware and understand how social media has a commercial value and can fit within the overall marketing strategy. You will enjoy being creative and always be thinking of new ideas and concepts
Social Media Manager responsibilities can also include:
  • Perform research on current benchmark trends and audience preferences
  • Design and implement social media strategy to align with business goals
  • Set specific objectives and report on ROI
  • Generate, edit, publish and share engaging content daily (e.g. original text, photos, videos and news)
  • Monitor SEO and web traffic metrics
  • Collaborate with other teams, like marketing, sales and customer service to ensure brand consistency
  • Communicate with followers, respond to queries in a timely manner and monitor customer reviews
  • New features to develop brand awareness, like promotions and competitions
  • Stay up-to-date with current technologies and trends in social media, design tools and applications
