Technical Design Project Manager

Are you a Technical Designer (CAD) who enjoys taking a creative idea and working out how to actually make it happen? Would you enjoy a varied role that calls for your technical design expertise and management of the design and build process?

We are delighted to be partnering with TonyG, an award-winning creative production house based in Kineton, Warwickshire. They work with some fantastic agencies, Designers and premium brands to turn ambitious creative concepts into beautifully crafted physical spaces, installations and experiences. They are looking for a hands-on Technical Design Project Manager - sitting at the intersection of design, CAD, production and project delivery. You don’t need to arrive knowing every material, process or piece of machinery, but you will need a good grounding in CAD, an understanding of how things are designed and made, and plenty of technical curiosity.

The role is based full-time at TonyG's workshop and studio in Kineton, approximately 10 miles north of Banbury and south of Leamington Spa. Due to the location, you will need a driving licence and your own transport. This is a permanent, full-time role and It comes with a salary of £30k - £36k DOE.

The Company

TonyG is a creative production house specialising in bringing complex and often unusual creative ideas to life. Working across retail, exhibitions, luxury environments and creative installations, their work combines design, technical thinking and exceptional craftsmanship. Their in-house capabilities include joinery, signage, large-format print, laser-cut acrylics and vinyl, bespoke furniture and framing, supported by a trusted network of specialist suppliers for areas such as metalwork and illumination.

It means projects are wonderfully varied. One day the team might be figuring out how to manufacture a bespoke retail installation; another could involve signage, furniture, display, print or an entirely new production challenge. There is a genuine problem-solving culture here. The team are technically curious, collaborative and very hands-on, with an impressive amount of knowledge, equipment and production capability under one roof.

It's also a business with personality. They take the quality of their work very seriously, but describe themselves as having a lively and friendly atmosphere, with music playing throughout the building and usually an office dog nearby!

The Role

As TechnicalDesign Project Manager, you will take creative and design briefs and turn them into practical, technically sound and beautifully delivered projects. You'll manage projects from the initial brief through technical development, costing and production to installation and final delivery. This means understanding what the client and designer are trying to achieve aesthetically, then working with TonyG's production teams and external specialists to determine how best to make it.

CAD is an important part of the role. You'll translate concepts into working drawings and production-ready specifications, so you'll need strong competency in at least one relevant CAD package such as VectorWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360 or SolidWorks.

Alongside the technical work, this is very much a Project Management role. You'll manage timelines, budgets, suppliers, client communication and production, ensuring everything comes together to the required quality, cost and deadline.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Interpreting creative briefs and working out the best technical and production solution
  • Taking projects from initial enquiry through planning, production and final delivery
  • Producing and adapting CAD drawings, technical artwork and production-ready files
  • Estimating costs, setting timelines and managing project budgets
  • Briefing and working closely with TonyG's in-house workshops and production teams
  • Recommending appropriate materials, processes and production methods
  • Coordinating specialist suppliers, freelancers and installation teams
  • Managing client communication and keeping stakeholders updated throughout delivery
  • Monitoring changes, costs and profitability and supporting timely invoicing
  • Overseeing finishing, packaging, logistics, installation and project aftercare
  • Ensuring work consistently meets TonyG's high quality standards
  • Managing relevant Health & Safety requirements and project documentation
  • Continuously developing your knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, software and new technologies

The variety of work means TonyG aren't expecting someone to arrive knowing everything. In fact, they actively encourage learning and describe the business as something of a technical "boot camp", where you'll be surrounded by people with deep knowledge of materials, machinery and production processes.

About You

Your background could come from retail design and build, bespoke joinery, exhibitions, events, theatre, commercial interiors, manufacturing or another design-led production environment. More important than having worked on exactly the same projects is that you understand the relationship between design, technical drawings and physical production.

You'll need:

  • Strong competency in at least one CAD package – ideally VectorWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360 or SolidWorks
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop
  • Experience managing design-and-build, production or bespoke multi-component projects
  • An understanding of production processes and ideally some exposure to joinery
  • Strong project management and organisational skills
  • Confidence managing budgets, estimates, timelines and suppliers
  • The ability to communicate clearly with clients, designers, craftspeople and production teams
  • Excellent attention to detail and an appreciation of good design and finish
  • A practical, solution-focused approach – you're someone who naturally asks, "How can we make this work?"
  • Curiosity and a genuine appetite to keep learning
  • A willingness to get involved and work as part of a close-knit team
  • A full driving licence and your own vehicle

You might not tick every technical box. If you have the core CAD capability, relevant production understanding and the curiosity to learn the rest, we'd still be very interested in hearing from you.
There is also genuine scope to progress within TonyG and become increasingly involved in the direction and development of the business as your knowledge and experience grow.

If you're a technically curious and enjoy project management, and you get a kick out of seeing an idea move from a drawing on screen to something beautifully made in the real world, we'd love to hear from you.
