Senior Marketing Manager
We are looking for a commercially-driven Senior Marketing Manager to join a well-known consumer brand based in Birmingham. This is an exciting time to join the business as they evolve their approach to marketing, operating as a lean, fast-moving e-commerce business with a clear focus on driving online sales. This role would suit a B2C marketer who understands how brand, campaign and performance marketing work together to drive commercial results. You don't need to be the technical expert in every channel, but you will know how to bring the right people together, turn strategy into action and influence stakeholders to make things happen. This is a hybrid role based in Birmingham, with 2–3 days per week in the office, offering a salary of up to £60,000 plus a discretionary bonus.
The Company
Our client is a large, well-known consumer brand that has been through significant change as it evolves from a traditional national service provider into a much leaner, more commercially-focused, digitally-driven business. Central to this transformation is a greater focus on ecommerce and online sales, with marketing playing an important role in customer acquisition, conversion and commercial growth.
The marketing team now brings together a strong mix of brand, campaign and performance marketing expertise. This Senior Marketing Manager will sit across these disciplines, helping to connect the activity and ensure marketing plans are delivered effectively against the wider commercial strategy.
Despite the scale and heritage of the brand, the culture they are looking to create is agile and entrepreneurial. They want people who are comfortable moving at pace, making decisions and finding ways to get things done.
The Role
As Senior Marketing Manager, you won't be responsible for setting the overarching marketing strategy. Your role is to take that strategy and make it happen, translating the commercial direction into clear and joined-up marketing plans across brand, campaign and performance activity.
You'll have specialists around you across the different marketing disciplines, so this isn't about being a hands-on performance marketer or a technical expert in every channel. Instead, you'll understand how the different elements fit together and know how to get the best from the expertise within the team.
You'll plan activity, establish priorities and bring together the right people and resources to deliver against the commercial objectives of the business. A key part of the role will be influencing stakeholders across a large organisation, removing roadblocks and creating the momentum needed to move plans into action.
Ultimately, the focus is on driving online sales, so you'll be commercially-minded and comfortable using customer and performance data to understand what's working, where opportunities exist and where activity needs to change.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Translating the wider marketing and commercial strategy into actionable marketing plans
- Planning integrated activity across brand, campaign and performance marketing
- Working closely with channel specialists to bring plans to life
- Keeping customer acquisition, conversion, online sales and commercial return at the heart of marketing activity
- Using insight and performance data to inform decisions and optimise activity
- Influencing senior stakeholders and wider teams to gain buy-in and move activity forward
- Managing multiple priorities and making pragmatic decisions at pace
- Bringing energy, momentum and a strong bias towards action
- Supporting the continued evolution towards a more agile, entrepreneurial and performance-led marketing culture
About You
We're looking for someone with strong B2C marketing experience gained within a business where online sales are fundamental to commercial success. You could come from ecommerce, retail, travel, leisure, ticketing, subscriptions, marketplaces or another high-volume consumer environment.
Your sector experience is less important than your understanding of the commercial relationship between marketing activity, customer behaviour and online revenue.
Ideally, you'll have worked within a start-up, scale-up or similarly entrepreneurial environment where you've needed to move quickly, take ownership and make things happen. However, you'll also have experience of working with a larger or established consumer brand, giving you the confidence and credibility to influence senior stakeholders and navigate a more complex organisation.
You'll ideally bring:
- Broad B2C marketing experience within an ecommerce or online transactional business
- A strong commercial mindset with a clear understanding of how marketing drives online sales
- Experience across, or strong knowledge of, brand, campaign and performance marketing
- The ability to translate strategy into clear plans and activity
- Experience working effectively with specialist marketing teams and channel experts
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, ideally gained within a larger organisation
- Experience of a start-up, scale-up or entrepreneurial environment, or clear evidence of working with a similar pace and mentality
- Confidence using data and insight to inform marketing decisions
- A proactive, pragmatic approach and the ability to get things moving without needing every answer upfront
- What matters is that you understand consumer ecommerce, are commercially focused and can bring together people, activity and ideas to turn marketing strategy into measurable results.
