A delayed hire is rarely caused by a lack of talent. It is usually process related.
Here are the five bottlenecks we see most often, and how to fix them.
The evolving brief
A role launches as one thing and slowly becomes another.
Example
A business hires for a content lead. Mid search they decide they also want SEO, paid media and team management experience. The talent pool narrows and momentum drops.
Fix
Spend time upfront defining non negotiables and nice to haves. Get full stakeholder agreement before going to market.
Too many opinions
Example
Five interviewers. Conflicting feedback. No clear decision maker.
Fix

Diary delays
Example
A week between each stage stretches a two-week process into six.
Fix
Block interview slots in advance. Treat hiring like a priority project, not an add on. Be prepared to flex and fit interviews in as soon as you can. Great candidates are often in multiple processes, and more often than not, the first offer wins.
Unclear feedback
Example
Feedback like ‘not quite right’ is not helpful.
Fix
Be specific. Was it experience level? Cultural alignment? Technical depth? Clear feedback sharpens the search and improves the outcome.
Over assessment
Example
Multiple tasks, presentations and panel interviews can exhaust candidates.
Research from the Talent Board Candidate Experience survey consistently shows that overly long processes reduce acceptance rates.
Fix
Ask only what is necessary to make a confident decision.
