Hello everyone, and welcome to today’s beyond:bites episode. This episode is client-focused, and I'm covering three common issues that can compromise your recruitment process. So, if you’re looking to fill a role swiftly, here are the top three things you need to watch out for.

Number One: Complete Alignment

What I mean by this is that everyone involved in the recruitment process—from the line manager who will oversee the new hire, to the HR representative who handles the company-wide perspective—should be aligned. Everyone should be in agreement on the job title, salary, and required skills before starting the process. This ensures clarity about the role and the level you’re hiring for.

Number Two: Realistic Salary and Skill Set

This is one of the biggest factors that can delay finding good candidates. Often, a client will post a job with a certain title, skill set, and salary that may not be appropriate in the current market. By consulting with a recruiter, you can get advice—even if you're not using a recruitment agency for the role—on whether the salary and skill expectations match the market rate. If your company has high retention and people rarely leave, it can be easy to lose touch with market values, leading to a job offer that may not attract suitable candidates.

Additionally, if a role stays open for too long, it can signal to candidates that something may be wrong with the position or the company—similar to how a house sitting unsold for a long time raises questions. To avoid this, it’s crucial to consult beforehand to ensure your salary and skill requirements are realistic. This will save you significant time in the long run.

Number Three: Prompt Responsiveness

Once you’re in the recruitment process and interviewing candidates, it’s essential to respond quickly. Often, candidates tell us that they enjoyed the interview and felt a good rapport with the team, but then they end up waiting a week or more for feedback. This delay can erode their positive impression of the company. Sometimes the delay is due to decision-makers being on holiday, or simply due to everyone’s busy schedules. However, if you delay in providing feedback—even to candidates you’re interested in—it can harm the candidate's experience and cause them to question whether they want to join you. For a quick and efficient recruitment process, follow these three tips—they should really help streamline things.
